Extremely Rare if not unique, 18th C. Georgian Tea Caddy with cut glass mirrored panels on three sides and the top and with striped inlay on the lid and zebra striped edging. The hinged lid opens to three divided compartments. Circa 1760.

Unusual Wood Tea Caddy or Tobacco Box in the form of a doghouse with brass nails and door surround and with a brass dog sitting outside. It opens by gently lowering the dog's hinged head which releases the peaked roof form lid which opens to a tin lined interior. The whole is mounted on a plinth base with brass beading. Circa 1870, probably Black Forest.

Alexandria, VA had a thriving salt-glazed stoneware industry throughout most of the 19th Century. Many pieces are marked with the makers name and "ALEXa" or "DC/ALEXa". Some common makers were John Swann, B.C. Milburne, H.C. Smith and E.J.Miller (a retailer). We are always interested in purchasing examples of Alexandria stoneware. Fine George II Silver Tea Caddy, by Samuel Taylor, having a reverse pear-form body embossed with floral garlands centering a blank cartouche on each side, removable lid with shell-form finial. Marked on underside of base.

Samuel was the son of Thomas Taylor and started his apprenticeship with John Newton in 1737. His first marks was entered in 1744...
